Art at the Dressing Room!
Now featuring new paintings by JiWon Lee.
"As a painter I mostly work on observational paintings, where the subjects are meaningful and carry a message. I enjoy doing that, however, my observational paintings are more or less controlled from the beginning to the end. However, sometimes I crave work that is less controlled and that is mostly left to chance. That is when I turn to my abstraction practice. Working on my big abstract paintings gives me a chance to become more physical and expressive with my medium. I enjoy being surprised by my own painting, since I do not know how my abstraction will turn out at the end."
"The creation process of my abstract paintings relates closely to life itself. I believe that people have little control over their lives, and nobody can really predict their future, just like I cannot predict the outcome of my painting. My Blossom series is about the creation of life, where results are unknown. For me the Blossom paintings stand on the edge of two opposites. The beginning of life, in someway, also means the end of life, or the beginning of an end. And I explore this beautiful irony of life through my Blossom series."
